Planet Zoo becomes more and more like a generic heartless tycoon game the more you play it. What made the Zoo Tycoon games great is that it didn't forget that you are making a comfy zoo and bonding with your creation. Why do staff need all these specific buildings to do things, and why can I not research an animal before buying it? Why do I have to put buildings and exhibits down before making a path? Why can I not make a path that is wide? Why is it so easy to lose track of what grid you are working on and end up making a roof of a building that is completely uneven? What is the point of the exhibit tank animals having temperature and humidity? Especially since the time goes so fast it doesn't matter whether or not you bond with any animal since they just might go away in 30 minutes to an hour in real time. Making anything in the game is so cumbersome and nonsensicle. The building system, maintenance, and in-game time are big references to this. They focused too much on making a "realistic" experience without thinking if it would be actually fun or not. Vondell had some super high quality releases. Zootekphoenix is the best modern day source for Zoo Tycoon 1 mods, look under Current Projects. I don't want to spoil it so look for it in the game, the only hint I want to give is that it'll blow minds. However if I had to pick the biggest secret, the one I see so many people shocked to discover, and I myself didn't know despite playing the game for 15 years up to then, is that there is a secret show animal in the game. Also cut that should still be in the game (I believe) is that the Bigfoot had gender differences, there's a variant in the game of a Bigfoot with tits. There was a lot of cut content for the game, for example Marine Animals had two mechanics cut, Temperature and Beaching (a beached Beluga animation is still in the game, but I don't know if other animals have them).
